Why is my bread pudding so watery?

It depends if you are covering the dish when baking. This will prevent the middle from rising and cooking well. If you prefer to cover it only do it for half the time and then take off the covering, to bake completely. Also you might have added to much liquid to the bread. Measure well.

How do you know when bread pudding is done baking?

Like all bakes you must test it by inserting a dry clean knife into the middle. If it comes out wet then it needs more baking. If you also press in the middle, to test by hand, and liquid comes up then it needs more baking. How To.

Cut bread pieces into squares, slice apples thinly or cube them small.

Combine the bread ,apples and raisins in a bowl. Then melt the brown sugar butter and milk in a saucepan. Pouring this mixture over the bread ingredients. Stir around and mix this altogether.

Pour this Bread mixture in the greased baking dish and level out.

Then mix the eggs and milk and vanilla well. Pour this over the bread mixture. Place in the oven to bake.

Baking it until done. Making the vanilla sauce and pouring it over the baked bread pudding before serving. (see recipe)

Ingredients

  1. 4 cups of cubed bread
  2. 1/4 cup of raisons
  3. 2 cups of peeled and cubed or sliced apples
  4. 1 cup of brown sugar
  5. 1 3/4 cups of milk
  6. 1/4 cup of butter
  7. 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  8. 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence
  9. 2 large eggs beaten
  10. Vanilla Sauce
  11. 1/4 cup of white sugar
  12. 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  13. 1/2 cup of milk
  14. 1/2 cup of butter
  15. 1teaspoon of vanilla essence

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175 Deg. C (350 Deg. F)
  2. Grease the baking dish of(about 7 x 11inch)
  3. Add the bread raisons and apple slices in a large bowl.
  4. In a saucepan add the butter and 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 3/4 cups of milk and the 1/4 cup of butter. Melt over a medium heat.
  5. Then pour over the bread mixture.
  6. In another small bowl mix the egg vanilla and cinnamon.
  7. Pour the bread mixture into baking dish and pour this egg mixture over the bread mixture.
  8. Bake in the oven for 40 -50 minutes until test cooked in the middle or the apple pieces are tender.
  9. While the bread pudding is baking mix and heat up the white and brown sugar and butter on a medium heat, bring to the boil. Remove and then add the vanilla and mix.
  10. When the dish is baked pour over the bread pudding. Serve
