- Cut open the roll or vetkoek and butter it.
- Fry the boerewors or sausage in a pan on the stove top until done. OR braai or grill.
- Cut the sausage into lengths required for the rolls or vetkoek.
- Add the tomato and onion sauce, or tomato and mustard.

Ingredients
- Vetkoek made. (4 vetkoek) (A Homemade vetkoek Recipe)
- Boerewors. fried or grilled. (4 pieces)
Sauce ingredients.
- Green and red and yellow bell peppers. (1 cup chopped) If you prefer one its fine.
- Olive oil (for frying)
- 1 red or white onion (chopped or sliced)
- 2 Tblsp of flour or maizena(for thickening) (cornfour)
- 1 tsp of brown sugar
- 3/4 cup of water (or stock)
- 2 cups of slices tomatoes or chopped.
- 1 tsp of garlic (dried or fresh chopped cloves)
- 1 Tsp of chopped basil and parsley or dried (some for garnish)
Instructions
Cook the vetkoek firstly or have some that was cooked already. (The recipe is in the link in the ingredients.)
How to Cook the boerewors or sausages.
- In a frying pan add a little water, and the boerewors. Heat it up and cook and turn when needed, make sure that there is enough water in the pan so the sausage does not burn. Sometimes the sausage or boerewors leaks some of the meat fat. Cook until nice and brown. The water would have evaporated.
Tomato onion and pepper sauce.
- Add the olive oil in a pan and sauté the onion and bell peppers. (4 minutes) If you using garlic cloves then add them now.
- Sprinkle the flour over the onions and peppers, stir and cook until the flour has been absorbed and a little brown.
- Slowly add the water (or stock), and stir until the mixture is nicely mixed and thicker.(about 2 min)
- Add the sugar, tomatoes, salt and garlic flakes and basil flakes.
- Continue to stir for about two to three minutes.
- Obtain vetkoek and cooked boerewors. Slice the vetkoek open to insert the boerewors and then add the tomato onion sauce over the wors,
- We created a vetkoek hot dog. Use this sauce for toasts or other breakfast and meals as well as boerewors rolls.

Notes
- Change the consistency of this sauce by adding a little more stock or water.
- Using a tin of tomato onion mix is also possible, instead of making this recipe. but rather use fresh tomatoes for this recipe than any tinned ones.
- This may be kept in the fridge for up to four days covered.
