FAQ’s and Tips

Can I make this pudding without gelatin?

Gelatine is what helps the pudding set firmly. You can substitute with agar agar, but the texture will be slightly firmer and less creamy.

Can I use evaporated milk instead of condensed milk?

No, condensed milk is sweetened and much thicker. Evaporated milk will not give the same sweetness or creamy texture.

How long does the pudding take to set?

Typically 6–8 hours in the fridge, or overnight for the best texture.

Can I make it ahead?

Yes, this pudding is perfect for prepping 1–2 days ahead. Keep it covered in the fridge.

Can I add toppings or flavors?

Absolutely yes, berries or strawberries, whipped cream, caramel drizzle, crushed cookies, or a sprinkle of cinnamon are delicious additions.

How To make No Bake Vanilla Condensed Milk Pudding

  • Whisk the egg yokes in a medium bowl, (as you will add the hot condensed milk to it) and also whisk the egg whites until stiff in another bowl.
  • Add the gelatin in the water (as per ingredients) to dissolve.
  • Bring the condensed milk diluted with the water to a boil. Then add it to the egg yoke mixture a little at a time whisking. Until it curdles.
  • Place this mixture back in the pot on the stove, and warm up again until the egg yokes are mixed in and the mixture is thickened. Take off of the stove.
  • Add the gelatin mixture into this warm mixture and stir until it has been dissolved, then add the vanilla extract, and stir in.
  • Then lastly pour the warm milk mixture over the stiffly whipped egg whites and mix well.
  • Pour your mixture into the bowls to set, (or make one dessert bowl or fill a mold,) for this pudding mixture. Once cool, place in the fridge until set. Best for overnight, or chill for at least 8 hrs.
  • On a serving dish for dessert, turn over the bowls, to release the dessert, if desired, or if it was in a mold, and serve with whipped cream. Or add the whipped cream to the top for garnish and serve.
