Fried Fish and Chips with Salad recipe idea. Best battered fried fish fillets with sides of chips, Greek salad and lemon, fresh from the sea.

The quantities will be up to you, therefore the ingredients will be for a meal for two.

  1. Some fresh fish.
  2. 1 cob or hake or kingklip. (any other you prefer) Filleted.
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1 Cup of flour
  5. olive oil (for frying)
  6. 1 tsp Salt and pepper or mixed fish spice.
  7. 2 Potato cut into chips, or Frozen chips. (oil to fry chips)
  8. 2 lemons 
  9.  Salad of choice.


  1. Fillet fish, lay aside.
  2. Cut potatoes into chips and leave in water for frying in oil.
  3. Mix the eggs, place in a bowl. 
  4. Mix flour and salts and spices in a bowl.
  5. Cut fillets to desired sizes, dip and coat them in the egg then the flour then the egg again. This is the batter.
  6. Once oil is warm in the pan for frying, then place the battered fish in to fry, Fry lightly and turn over within  3 minutes. Test fish if the white is all cooked. The batter should be golden brown. (frying time also depends on the thickness of the fillet of fish. If it has thicker flesh you would fry a little longer)
  7. In a separate pot or pan or fryer. place oil to heat for frying the potato chips. Add the chips and leave the potato chips to cook a bit before lifting to turn them. (this will prevent the chips from breaking up) Once brown they should be soft and cooked. Then place them on a towel or paper towel to drain the oil off.
  8. Place your fish and some chips in a serving plate and slice some lemons for squeezing the juice over the fish. Salt the chips or add some tomato sauce or other tartar sauce you would like. 
  9. A simple salad can be tomato and onion with some lettuce.
  10. Other wise use other salads for a side dish. As per below links
