Easy Bottled Sweet Apple chutney Recipe. Homemade bottled or canned apple chutney When life gives you apples in apple season.

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 Kg of apples (weighed before chopping and peeling)
  2. 500 g onions (weighed before chopping and peeling)
  3. 400 g of brown sugar (or demerara sugar)
  4. 500 ml of white wine vinegar (if no vinegar use lemon juice or apple cider vinegar)
  5. 2 lemons and their Zest and juice.
  6. 1 small chili
  7. 1 Tsp of ground ginger
  8. 1 Tsp of all spice
  9. 1/2 Tsp of cinnamon
  10. a pinch of ground cloves
  11. 1/2 Tsp of salt
  12. 8 peppercorns
  13. 1 Tbsp. of mustard seeds 

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel and core apples, then chop into pieces.(as required).
  2. Peel, chop and mince up onions.
  3. Deseed and finely chop up chili.
  4. Place ingredients in a large cooking pot and bring to boil slowly. Stirring now and then. Until sugar is dissolved.
  5. Then simmer on low heat, that the bubbles are barely visible until the chutney has thickened. 
  6. Draw a spatula across the bottom of the chutney to see if no liquid appears. Then it is done.
  7. Fill clean sterilized jars while warm, with plastic under lid. seal.
  8. Leave to mature for a month, longer is better.
