Ingredients

Units Scale
  1. 4 cups fresh blueberries
  2. 2 cups granulated sugar
  3. 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the blueberries: Rinse the blueberries and remove any stems or damaged berries.
  2. Cook the berries: Add the blueberries and lemon juice to a large saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring and gently crushing some of the berries as they soften.
  3. Add the sugar: Stir in the sugar and continue cooking until it dissolves.
  4. Simmer: Bring the mixture to a gentle boil. Cook for about 15–20 minutes, stirring frequently, until the jam thickens.
  5. Check the consistency: Place a small spoonful on a chilled plate. Let it cool briefly, then push it with your finger. If it wrinkles slightly and doesn’t run quickly, the jam is ready.
  6. Cool: Remove from the heat and skim off any foam. Spoon the hot jam into clean jars and allow it to cool.
  7. Store: Refrigerate and use within a few weeks, or follow proper tested canning procedures for longer storage.

Notes

Tip: Blueberries naturally contain some pectin, so you can make this without added pectin. The lemon juice helps provide acidity and balances the sweetness. For a softer, spreadable homemade jam, simply cook it until it reaches your preferred consistency.
