Make this easy Classic homemade Green Bean Casserole with fresh green beans, creamy mushroom sauce, and crispy fried onions.
1 lb (450 g) fresh green beans, trimmed and halved
5-6 slices bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
1 (10.5 oz / 300 g) can cream of mushroom soup (or homemade, see below)
1/2 cup (120 ml) milk
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 teaspoon fresh)
1 clove garlic, minced (or 1/2 tsp garlic powder)
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Salt, to taste
1 1/2 cups (about 3 oz / 85 g) crispy fried onions (French’s style)
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
In a bowl, toss onion rings with flour, salt, and paprika until coated. Heat about ½ inch of oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the onions in batches for 2–3 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Drain on paper towels and cool before using in the casserole.

2 tbsp flour
¾ cup milk
½ cup chicken or vegetable broth
½ cup finely chopped mushrooms
Salt & pepper to taste
Melt butter, sauté mushrooms 3–4 minutes, stir in flour, whisk in milk and broth, and simmer until thickened, then use in the recipe.
1 medium onion, thinly sliced into rings
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon paprika (optional)
