Ingredients

Units Scale
  1. 2/3 cup milk
  2. 1 2/3 cups flour
  3. pinch of salt
  4. 2 tablespoons sugar
  5. 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  6. 1 cup vegetable oil for deep-frying
  7. 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  8. dash of vanilla extract
  9. 4 drops red food coloring
  10. red and gold hearts
  11. sprinkles
  12. 2 dried strawberries

Instructions

  1. Microwave the milk to body temperature. Pour the milk into a bowl. Add the yeast, salt, and sugar. Stir until the mixture forms a foamy cap. Add some of the flour and fold in with a spatula. Add the flour in batches. When the dough forms a ball, transfer it to a floured board and knead until it becomes soft and not sticky.
  2. Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave in a warm kitchen until doubled in size. Ours took 1 hour.
  3. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/3-1/2 inch. Use a cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Form the remaining dough into hearts as well. Transfer them to a board, cover with a towel, and let rise for 25 minutes.
  4. Heat the oil and fry the hearts for 1 minute on each side.
  5. Transfer the donuts to a paper towel. Heat the chocolate glaze in the microwave on pulse mode. Cover a few hearts with white glaze, making drips with a spoon. Tint the remaining glaze red and decorate the donuts. Sprinkle with sprinkles, hearts, and dried strawberry powder.
  6. Transfer the donuts to a serving plate and enjoy!
