Homemade Heart Valentine’s Cookies made with simple ingredients. Easy to decorate with sprinkles or icing for a sweet Valentine’s Day treat.

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/4 cup of white sugar
  2. 4 cups of flour
  3. 250 g (1/2 lb) of soft butter
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 2 Tsp cream of tarter
  6. 1 Tsp bicarb of soda
  7. 1 Tsp of vanilla essence

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven 180 Deg. C (350 deg. F), (fairly hot oven)
  2. Mix butter and sugar, beat in eggs and vanilla extract.
  3. Add all the dry ingredients (flour, cream of tarter, bicarb of soda ) To make a soft dough.
  4. Roll the dough on a lightly floured surface, cut out your heart shapes and place on a grease baking tray or sheet.(Roll the dough about 3–4 mm (⅛ inch) thick)
  5. Chill the cut cookies for 10 minutes before baking to help them hold their shape.
  6. Then bake in the fairly hot oven until edges look set and just lightly golden, not browned. Very thin shapes may be ready closer to 7–8 minutes. (keep an eye on the bake)
  7. Let them cool on the tray for 2–3 minutes before transferring to a rack. Decorate with red sprinkles and heart shapes, when cool enough.
  8. This makes a large quantity of biscuits.
  9. Store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Edges should look set and just lightly golden, not browned.

  • Very thin shapes may be ready closer to 7–8 minutes.

  • Chill the cut cookies for 10 minutes before baking to help them hold their shape.

  • Let them cool on the tray for 2–3 minutes before transferring to a rack.
